PERSONAL AND CHILD WELLFARE CLEARANCES

All volunteers must process a background check each year.  PA child welfare clearance and personal PA State Police clearance are completed every five years.

If you volunteer for your child's school or for another organization serving youth, you are aware that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires a criminal background check and a child abuse check in order to volunteer. When you register to volunteer with AYSO, your criminal background check will be handled through Sterling Volunteers -- follow the prompts for this process to be initiated.
Sterling system will ask, Have you previously been screened for the Pennsylvania Neglect/Abuse Registry or Pennsylvania Child Abuse within the past 5 years?

If you answer NO (that is, you do not have a hard copy of a child abuse clearance), please watch for an email from Sterling (subject line: Action Required to Complete Your Background Check) with a token and instructions on how to apply for a PA Abuse Clearance and have it submitted to Sterling. It will look like this:

If you answer YES (that is, you do have a current child abuse clearance), please scan the hard copy of your child abuse clearance and send it to our regional Child Volunteer Protection Advocate (CVPA) at [email protected] for our records.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Your volunteer registration fee provides access to AYSOU.org where you can log in and complete training for all roles you wish to perform, download various manuals and training documents, download a record of your training started and completed.  You can access AYSOU.org any time by logging into your account at Sports Connect and clicking on the AYSOU tab on you home screen.

All AYSO volunteers must complete Safe Haven, Concussion Awareness, and Cardiac (three separate trainings). All coaches and referees need to take the Laws of the Game module found under the Referee folder.  All coaches need to take age specific coach training modules found under the Coach folder.  These online courses are relatively brief but are very important to presenting a great season by ensuring you understand child protection requirements and basic safety procedures.  We will also provide field training for coaches and referees needed to put the online training in context and add strategy and helpful hints.

As noted above, all volunteers need to complete various training to know about your role and associated responsibilities.  If you have any questions as to which modules you need to complete, simply email [email protected] or [email protected]

Ensure you save your certificates of completion on your computer to upload if needed.  The record of completion will attach to your account automatically.  But having a copy will help if database problems occur.
